Travis and I went down to the Las Vegas Bowl to see BYU and Arizona University play. We met mom and Scott down there. We both took a half a day at work and wanted to get on the road by about four. Unfortunately our plans had many detours:
#1. SNOW STORM!!!
*Why a snow storm today. Couldn't it just wait til the next day or who knows when.
#2. CAR RENTAL!!!
*Holy Crap. Travis and I decieded to rent a car. I had a coupon, so the cost would be very minimal. Plus we didn't want to put a thousand miles on one of our own cars, and the gas the gas would be cheaper in a little bit smaller vehicle. (Had no idea it would be down to $1.32 a gallon) Anyways, when the storm hit, we thought it would be best to get a little bit bigger car or possible SUV. So I started calling the rental car company and letting them know what we would like. They said it shouldn't be a problem, and would let me know if they could get me in a car sooner during the day, so that we could get a little bit quicker start to our trip. All was good until we show up and there are no cars except for a mini van and a PT cruiser, which I say "HECK NO" to both. I would look awful driving one of those things and Travis wouldn't have looked good either.
In the meantime, some kid shows up with with a Chevy Cobalt that he is returning, and I just knew that was going to be our car. Which is just fine because that is what we were paying for anyways. However, the dumb guy wants to argue over the freaking price. Now I am going to add I have a confirmation number and an email with the bargain price of $53.47, and the guy wants me to pay more and doesn't want to take my coupon. So I tell him that just isn't going to work, and we argue for twenty minutes. Let me tell you I was already pissy and grumpy and everything like that, so I just thought bring it on Randy.
Needless to say, we left with my price and a piece of crap Cobalt in the snow.
#3. DID I MENTION SNOW STORM!!!
And what a storm it was. We finally got on the road around 4:45. Only 45 minutes later then planned. It took us forever to get through Salt Lake and we hoped it was going to die down. Got to Orem/Provo not too much snow. Hit Santaquin, and SNOW!!! Crap, so we drive and more snow. Nephi=SNOW Scipio= SNOW Fillmore= SNOW SNOW SNOW SNOW. It wouldn't stop. The roads weren't plowed worth a crap, and the stuff would not stop. Finally, about the I-70 Junction is let up and we just decided to run for it. And we ran, especially when I started to drive. We made it to St. George by 12:00 am, and after a short break and quick gas fill up, we headed for Vegas. A 7 or 7 1/2 hour drive turned into a 10 hour drive. We finally got to Vegas around 2:30 (our time). We were exhausted.
Now to tell about the best part of the evening and early AM.
We stayed at The Orleans. It is a hotel just off the strip. Travis had booked our room about a month ago, and we got both nights for the bargain price of $60.00 dollars. Cheap car, cheap gas, and cheap room. Appearantly, Travis had been given a bad time about what a dive we would be staying in and he was telling people, "No its a decent hotel we will be ok". I had no idea, I was just along for the ride, but the pictures were decent looking on the Internet. So while he was checking in, he was informed that we would be upgraded to a suite because we needed non-smoking and they were out of the regular rooms. It was a somewhat busy weekend for Vegas I guess. He was OK with that, and I wasn't going to complain. We just wanted somewhere to sleep we had been up forever. Now when I think of a suite, I am thinking two queen beds a couch and a mini bar, maybe a jetted tub depending on what kind of suite. So we head up to our room which is on the 21st floor, and it turns out that there are 21 floors to this hotel so we were going to be on top of the world. We start to walk down the hall, which are freaking tall, and we notice that all the rooms down the hallway have double doors. Now of course we are getting a little bit more excited, but nothing prepared us for what we were about to see on the other side. HOLY CRAP!!! WHAT A ROOM. All of a sudden we were no longer tired and all we could just do is laugh. For the bargain price of $60.00 we got a penthouse suite. It was AWESOME. And I will show you how awesome it was, because that is the only thing I took pictures of this weekend. Nothing at the football game, not one single picture except for this awesome room. It was three 50 foot flat screen TVs, plus two other ones. Three bathrooms, two king size beds in separate rooms, jetted tubs in two of them. It was the highlight of the weekend. The low light was that Dallas lost, BYU lost (no big loss for me there though), and I didn't win any money gambling.
So I will torture you no more with my stories and show you my wonderful pictures.
